It is with great sadness that the board members, management, and staff of al-Zaytouna Center for Studies and Consultations learned of Prof. Moh’d Issa Salhiyyeh passing.

Prof. Salhiyyeh was a member of the Centre’s board of Consultants, and faculty member at the department of History at Al-Yarmouk University in Jordan. He obtained his BA from Damscus University in 1965, and his MA and PhD from Ain-Shams University in Egypt in 1970 and 1973 respectively.

Prof. Salhiyyeh is considered one of the prominent historians in the field of Arab and Islamic history, and described by many of his colleagues and historians as a living archival memory, because of his extensive archival knowledge, especially in the Ottoman archives related to the Palestinian issue. He authored and edited many books, the latest of which was released by al-Zaytouna Centre in 2009 (entitled Jerusalem: Population & Land (Arabs & Jews) 1275-1368 AH / 1658 – 1948 CE ).

The Centre’s most sincere condolences and deepest sympathies go to his family. His passing is a marked loss in the field of Arab and Islamic History, especially that of Jerusalem.
