This report sheds light on an issue that has contributed to the release of more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners. It is the prisoner exchange operation between Hamas and Israel concluded in October 2011.

The report reviews the history of detaining prisoners, and points out the most prominent prisoner exchange operations that took place between the Palestinian resistance and Israel. It speaks about the “Dispelled Illusion” operation, during which Gilad Shalit was captured; and then it deals with the subject of indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas, mainly under Egyptian mediation.

It also talks about the prisoner exchange operation known as the “Devotion of the Free” Deal.

This is the 22nd report in the series of Information Reports, prepared by the  Information and Archives Department of al-Zaytouna Centre.

The aim of these reports is to shed light, in each one, on an important issue that is of interest to those who follow closely the issues of the Arab and Islamic region, in particular those related to the Palestinian problem. These periodical reports provide the readers, in a limited number of pages, with updated, documented and extensive information.
