Al-Zaytouna Centre for Studies and Consultations has issued an important Arabic translation of the document “The Strategy of the Israeli Army,” which is the 79th publication in the Centre’s Translations series. The Hebrew document is prepared by the Israeli army and has upon its publication in August 2015 made international headlines being an unprecedented document in the history of the Israeli Army. The strategy has been published by Israeli media for public inspection with a confidential version exclusively maintained for Israeli decision makers.
The 33-page document, which was translated by Dr. ‘Adnan Abu ‘Amer, outlines the possible ways for the Israeli Army to retaliate in the case of the outbreak of any confrontation on any of the potential fronts; northern, southern & remote fronts, through pounding tens of thousands of targets with abundance of heavy fire. The document also outlines the relation between the Israeli Army and the political leadership, and seeks to determine Israel’s main enemy at the current time besides other points that define the strategy of the Army in the near future.
After tens of years, the strategy of the Israeli Army is revealed to the public and to politicians, and for the first time the Israeli Army declares what it intends to do in peace, emergency and war. This document could be considered a milestone in Israel’s national security. For it is the first time the Israeli Army defines for a comprehensive national security theory.
