Al-Zaytouna Centre for Studies and Consultations has issued the Information File (26) in Arabic entitled, “The Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on the Palestinian and Israeli Scenes,” and it is offered now for free download.
This file shows that the spread of COVID-19 pandemic has increased the complications of the Palestinian and Israeli scenes. The Palestinian Authority has suffered from a downturn in the economy, increases in unemployment rates, and the decline of revenues. The prisoners issue witnessed a dangerous development due to the deliberate Israeli neglect of their conditions. As for the Palestinian refugees, their suffering and marginalization increased in light of the decline of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) services.
Israel has pursued the policy of extortion and imposed restrictions on Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip (GS), which reflected negatively on the Palestinian performance in facing COVID-19. Israel has also taken advantage of the pandemic crisis to target Islamic holy sites and blackmail Palestinians, in addition, it demanded that no treatment be given to GS residents without concessions in the Hamas prisoners issue.
As for Israel, it has suffered from the pandemic, too; the economy witnessed a clear decline, where the budget was reduced, the salaries of public sector employees were reduced, and private companies were shot.
