The 128-page book recounts the experience of displacement and suffering from the initial exodus following the 1948 Nakbah, alongside the enduring hope and resilience of refugees awaiting return. It explores their multifaceted hardships; legal, security, judicial, political, social, economic, health-related, and educational. The book also maps the distribution of refugees within historic Palestine and across the diaspora, and examines international law’s stance on Palestinian refugees, the right of return, and efforts at resettlement.
The book highlights that the Palestinian refugee issue is the world’s oldest and largest refugee crisis. Of an estimated 10.9 million Palestinians worldwide at the start of 2010, some 7.5 million, nearly 70% of the population, live under daily hardship, awaiting the realization of their right and aspiration to return to their lands, cities and villages. This right has been denied for more than sixty years, yet Palestinians have persistently upheld and insisted upon it despite harsh conditions. Meanwhile, the international community remains largely silent in the face of Israel’s rejection of this right, even as Israel annually brings tens of thousands of Jewish immigrants to Palestine under the so-called “right of return.”
Notably, the book aims to provide a comprehensive account of refugee suffering across different regions of displacement and the diaspora. It integrates testimonies from multiple generations and narratives that illuminate the human dimension of their hardships, alongside current, well-documented statistics and information, all presented in a style that is both linguistically compelling and visually engaging.
This series is a rich interactive documentation of the Palestinian suffering under the Israeli occupation. It focuses on the Israeli violations of the Palestinians’ basic human rights. This series is also distinguished with academic, well documented, comprehensive, concise, and graphically-supported, It is published (& ongoing publication) in both Arabic and English Languages.
