The importance of this book lies in the fact that it covers an important part of the history of the Palestinian Islamic movement and Hamas movement, where Abu Marzuq played a key role in establishing them and their political course. Hence, this book is an indispensable source for those writing about the contemporary history of Palestine, and in particular the Hamas movement.

The book has detailed Abu Marzuq’s detention in the US, the accompanying US and Israeli actions, policies and maneuvers, and how he, his lawyer Stanley Cohen and Hamas dealt with them.

It includes four introductions and 17 chapters in addition to appendices containing photos and documents. Starting when Abu Marzuq was growing up in a refugee camp, then talking about his study and work inside Palestine and abroad, up to his journey to the US, the details of his detention, hearings and trial, then finally his release.

The first chapters highlight Abu Marzuq’s childhood, upbringing, emigration, and his shift from being a “Nasserite” to becoming a member of the “Muslim Brothers movement.” However, the main milestones in this book with which the rest of the chapters dealt are his years of work, and then his detention in the US on charges of being the leader of Hamas’ political bureau, a period full of events, suffering and opportunities.

Concerning Abu Marzuq’s detention, the book provide details of the hearing sessions, memoranda, documents and the agreement of 25/4/1997, which stipulated that Abu Marzuq would be released and deported from the US.

At the end of the book, readers find appendices containing photos of that period, detention-related documents and an index.

This is the first volume of Abu Marzuq’s Life Journey, which will be detailed in the following volumes.
