With deep sorrow and heartfelt grief, and with full acceptance of Allah’s will and decree, Al-Zaytouna Centre for Studies and Consultations mourns the loss of a respected member of its Board of Consultants:

Prof. Dr. Bayan Ajaj Nuwayhed

who passed away on Saturday, 12 July 2025.

Since the founding of the Centre, the late Nuwayhed remained closely engaged with its journey, actively supporting its mission, following its work, and contributing to its progress. Her passing is a profound loss for Palestine, which has lost a distinguished scholar and steadfast advocate who firmly believed in the justice of the Palestine issue and devoted her life to defending it.

Nuwayhed was a renowned historian, author, and intellectual of the highest caliber. Among her many important works are: “Political Leadership and Institutions in Palestine: 1917–1948,”  “Palestine: The Cause, the People, the Civilization: A Political History from the Canaanite Era to Twentieth Century (1917),” and her powerful documentation “Sabra and Shatila: September 1982.”

Nuwayhed also served as a university professor and held leading positions, including Head of the Documentation Department at the Palestinian Research Center and at the Centre for Arab Unity Studies.

On behalf of its General-Manager, Prof. Dr. Mohsen Mohammad Saleh, its Board of Directors, Board of Consultants and all its staff, Al-Zaytouna Centre extends its heartfelt condolences to her family, students, and all who knew and loved her. We pray that Allah Almighty accepts her deeds, envelops her in His boundless mercy, grants her a place in His spacious Paradise, and blesses her loved ones with patience and comfort.

Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.
