Academic Paper: Deconstructing the Zionist Narrative: A Prospective Analysis of Transformations in International Legitimacy following Operation al-Aqsa Flood (Arabic)

Al-Zaytouna Centre for Studies and Consultations has published an academic paper entitled “Deconstructing the Zionist Narrative: A Prospective Analysis of Transformations in International Legitimacy following Operation al-Aqsa Flood,” by Dr. Islam ‘Abdallah Abu Khayt. The paper aims to deconstruct the Zionist narrative premised on assertions of security superiority and the monopolization of victimhood, assertions that sustained a profound structural rupture in the wake of Operation al-Aqsa Flood on 7 October 2023. Furthermore, it examines the deep symbolic and moral transformations that have reshaped Israel’s international standing.

Based on critical discourse analysis and futures studies, the paper concludes that Operation al-Aqsa Flood and the subsequent Israeli aggression precipitated an unprecedented erosion of Israel’s moral legitimacy. This erosion has been reflected in waning Western public support, the intensification of legal accountability discourse, most prominently through proceedings before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), and the disintegration of Israel’s entrenched image as a “democratic oasis.”

The study further projects future trajectories and concludes that a gradual, sustained erosion of Israel’s legitimacy is the most probable scenario. In this trajectory, Israel’s standing is expected to decline steadily, under the combined weight of the Palestinian people’s unprecedented resistance and resilience, particularly in the Gaza Strip, alongside increasing human rights and legal pressures, as well as widespread popular and international rejection of Israeli practices.

The study further offers a set of recommendations, foremost among them the strategic use of international legal accountability mechanisms and the strengthening of the Palestinian liberation narrative, with the goal of capitalizing on this historic shift and expediting its momentum.
