Al-Zaytouna Centre for Studies and Consultations in Beirut has published a new Arabic book casting light on the Arab parties in Israel. The 69-page book explores the emergence of these parties and their programs and their influence in the political life of the Palestinians in the 1948 occupied territories.

This book is the 25th in the Information Report series prepared by the Archives and Information Department at Al-Zaytouna Centre. It points out that at the beginning of the establishment of the State of Israel, the Palestinians did not join the Israeli parties, except for few who voted for the Israeli parties in the Knesset elections. Afterwards, some Palestinians joined some Israeli left-wing parties, until they became able to establish their own Arab parties with a political platform that embodies the demands of the Palestinians of 1948 territories.

The book displays the Arab political parties and their programs and how they were influenced by the political, economic, and cultural developments that have occurred over time to the Palestinians in 1948 territories. Actually, these parties are similar in their names, programs and goals. Moreover, the book highlights the role of the Arab parties in the Israeli domestic political system, their participation in the Knesset and municipal elections, and their impact on the laws and policies of Israeli governments. It also points to the stances of these parties towards the Palestinian issue, peace process, right of return, prisoners, and national reconciliation…, and the milestones in Palestinian issue history.

The book confirms that, although Israel allowed the Palestinians in the 1948 territories to practice their basic rights, such as running for elections and expressing their opinion, yet, that does not mean that Israel treats them fairly. Israel’s racist policy gives supremacy to the Jews, while discriminating against the Palestinians in most fields. The book also shows that the Knesset enacted a large number of racist laws that diminish the ability of the Arab Parties to prevent such laws.

The Information Report series was launched by the Information Department of al-Zaytouna Centre in early 2008. It aims at providing periodical, informative, concise and well-documented information set on selected issues of concern on the Arab and Muslim World, specifically the Palestinian issue.
